Prosthodontics

Fixed and removable prosthetics, crown preparations, RPD design, complete dentures, occlusion, and implant fundamentals — structured for OSCE, viva, and board exams.

What examiners focus on

  • Crown preparation principles — taper, finish line, occlusal reduction
  • RPD design — Kennedy classification, surveying, components, and path of insertion
  • Complete denture fabrication steps — impression through insertion
  • Occlusion concepts — centric relation, lateral excursion, and interference
  • Impression material selection and error troubleshooting
  • Cement selection rationale for provisional vs definitive crowns
  • Implant-supported prosthetics — basic planning and contraindications

5 tips for prosthodontics exams

  1. For crown prep questions, always mention taper angle, finish line type, and why you chose it.
  2. RPD design vivas follow a fixed order — Kennedy class first, then surveying, then components. Practice that flow.
  3. Know the complete denture steps as a numbered sequence — examiners will stop you mid-step and ask "what's next?"
  4. Occlusion questions often test definitions — CR vs CO, working vs non-working side. Keep them crisp.
  5. When discussing impression errors, always link the error to the clinical consequence (e.g. "air blow = void in die = poor margin fit").
